How do the period panty by Libertad Menstrual work?
Period Panties are an amazing alternative to tampons and sanitary pads. They work like normal underwear, but have several built-in absorbent layers that manage your menstrual flow. The top layer keeps you dry because it absorbs the flow instantly, while other layers store the flow safely, preventing leakage or wetness.
They’re perfect so you can forget about changing every few hours. Depending on your flow, you can wear them for up to 12 hours at a time, day or night. Not only do they absorb the flow, but they also block odours. At the end of the day, you wash them in cold water, then put them in the washing machine, and that’s it! It’s eco-friendly and economical over time.
Period Panty by Libertad Menstrual are designed with several super-thin layers:
- The first layer Dry-Feel keeps you dry by wicking moisture away from the skin. It also has Odor-Stop technology.
- The Active+ layer absorbs flow.
- The Absorb+ layer retains large amounts of liquid and stores it.
- The Leak-Block layer acts as a waterproof barrier.

Can I use Libertad Menstrual panties without additional protection?
Yes, Period Panty by Libertad Menstrual are designed to be used as the only protection during the menstrual cycle. You don’t need additional tampons, pads, or liners.
However, if you have a particularly heavy flow and prefer to be on the safe side, you can also combine them with other products.
Can I use them overnight?
Of course! Our period panties are designed to offer all-night protection without worrying about leaks. Thanks to XIBPro technology, they provide comfort and absorption for up to 12 hours, ensuring you sleep soundly.
What is the right absorption for me?
The right absorption depends on your flow and the time of your period. At Libertad Menstrual, we offer panties with 3 levels of absorption:
- Low absorbency level for light flow, equivalent to 2 tampons.
- Medium absorption level for moderate flow, equivalent to 4 tampons.
- High absorption level for heavy flow up to 6 tampons.
Remember that each cycle is different, and with use you will become familiar with the option that best suits your needs. If in doubt, we recommend choosing a higher level of absorption.
What is the absorbent coverage level in a menstrual panty?
The absorbent coverage level in a menstrual panty refers to how extensive the absorbent area is within the garment, both in the front and back. This coverage level can vary depending on the panty design and its ability to absorb different menstrual flows. Essentially, each coverage level is designed to meet protection needs on different days of the cycle and for various types of activity.
Here are the coverage levels we offer at Libertad Menstrual:
- Light Coverage:
This coverage includes an absorbent pad in the lower part of the panty, concentrated in the central area. It’s ideal for very light flows or as an extra security layer alongside other menstrual products. It provides a sense of freedom and discretion, perfect for the last days of your period. - Medium Coverage:
At this level, the absorbent pad covers about half of the panty, both in the front and back. It’s a good option for moderate flows and for those seeking intermediate protection without full coverage. It offers security and comfort for daily use, with good absorption without feeling the pad across the entire panty surface. - Full Coverage:
In this option, the absorbent pad completely covers the panty up to the waistband. It’s ideal for heavy flows and for those days when you need full, secure protection, even if you’re active. Full coverage is perfect for nighttime use, as it prevents leaks in any position, allowing you to rest worry-free.
Each coverage option provides distinct benefits depending on your needs and the flow level of each day of your cycle, allowing you to manage your period in the most comfortable and secure way possible.
How do I know my period panties size?
Normally our knickers use your usual size. If there are any exceptions, with different sizes, we will let you know on the product page. For your peace of mind, each of our period panties has a sizing chart on our website, where you can find the recommended waist and hip measurements for each model.
How long can I wear a menstrual panty?
Wearing time depends on how heavy your flow is. Our panties can offer up to 24 hours of protection for light flow, although we recommend changing them between 8-12 hours for medium to heavy flow.
How many period panties do I need for one cycle?
Depending on how often you need to change and wash them, we generally recommend having between 6 and 10 pairs of period panties to cover your entire cycle. This will allow you to alternate and wash them comfortably without running out of refills.
If this is your first time using them, and you want to try them out, you can start with a 3-pack and see what rhythm of changes is most comfortable for you.
How should I wash my period panties?
Washing your period panties is very easy: Rinse in cold water <30° after use - don’t let them soak, just rinse until the water runs clear!
Cold wash (immediately or afterwards) if in a laundry bag, all the better and without using fabric softener. Hang to dry. Reuse. Repeat! Do not use fabric softeners or stain removers, as they reduce the functionality of the fabric.
Should I wash my period panties before I wear them for the first time?
Yes, we always recommend washing period panties before use. This is not only hygienic, but also activates the absorption capacity of the inner layers, improving their performance. Wash them by hand or in the washing machine with a mild detergent, at a maximum temperature of 30°C, and avoid using fabric softeners.
Will I smell if I wear period panties?
No. Thanks to the Dry-Feel layer with Odor-Block technology, our knickers neutralise odours and keep you fresh all day long. Although you may notice a slight odour when you take them off, it is not transmitted through your clothes or into the environment.
Will I feel wet or damp wearing period panties?
Not at all! Thanks to Dry-Feel technology, our panties quickly absorb moisture and keep it away from the skin, leaving you dry and comfortable all day long. The Active+ layer directs the flow to the layers underneath, preventing any feeling of wetness in the intimate area.
Do they work for heavy flows?
Yes, our period panties with XIBPro technology are designed to absorb the equivalent of up to 6 tampons, making them perfect for heavy flow. The combination of super-absorbent layers ensures you’ll be protected and comfortable, without worrying about leakage.
Do period panties swell up like a nappy?
Not at all! Although they absorb a lot of fluid, our period panties with XIB-Pro technology are thin and discreet. They don’t increase in volume as they absorb your flow, so you’ll feel like you’re wearing any other normal panty.
Can they be used for sport?
Of course they do. Many of our clients practice sports wearing our menstrual panties, as they offer freedom of movement and security against leaks. You can run, do yoga, or go to the gym feeling protected and comfortable.
Are period panties suitable for incontinence?
Yes, our menstrual panties are also perfect for women who experience light urine leakage or light incontinence. For more severe incontinence we recommend the use of specific incontinence panties, with more coverage, up to the hip.
Can they be used with irregular flow during perimenopause?
Yes, period panties are an excellent choice for women in perimenopause, when flows can become irregular or unpredictable. They offer comfort and absorption to handle both light flows and unexpected spotting.
Are period panties suitable for postpartum?
Yes, our period panties are perfect for postpartum. They provide greater absorption and comfort than disposable products, keeping you safe and protected all day long. Plus, the softness of the inner layers helps prevent irritation to the perineum, a sensitive area after childbirth.
What are the benefits of reusable period panties?
